The vision of the Johnston Alliance For Character Development is for Johnston to be a community where all members personally value and model the principles of trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Mission The mission of the Johnston Alliance For Character Development is to provide leadership and coordination to teach, evaluate, advocate, and model character development throughout the community of Johnston. December 9, 2005 First meeting of planning committee (Barb Savage –Partnership for Health Community; Francine Canfield-Partnership & Library; Willona Goers, CE Resource Council; Nancy Betz, CE Resource Council) Joining the committee were Jim Sanders, City of Johnston administrator and Paul Jacobson, Johnston Chamber of Commerce. The above committee met with a representative from the Urbandale community committee for character; Scott Raecker from Inst. For Character Development; students from MS and HS; and Dean Summa from Regency Homes to learn more about what was happening in specific areas such as schools, business, etc. The goal of the planning committee was to:
November 29, 2005 Kick-off event was a luncheon at Pioneer-Carver Center. 43 attended. March 3 and 8, 2006 Two, one-day trainings held with 41 people attending. 26 people agreed to serve on the committee to move the character initiative forward. Those people decided to call the group the Johnston Alliance for Character Development
